Richard Venner is the International Development Manager at Canterbury Christ Church University.
“Canterbury Christ Church University is a multi-campus major university with a diverse community of 17,000 staff and students, and networks across the world. Throughout our history, we have been innovators. We have shaped our courses, research and partnerships around regional, national or international needs.
From teacher training in the 1960s, professional health courses in the ‘80s, and now new creative arts, science, engineering, technology and medicine for future generations; our story is one of relevance, impact and progress.
We offer international students an inspiring programme of enrichment, raising awareness of higher education from an international student perspective. This includes giving talks on University life, exploring culture shock, examining academic expectations and presenting the application process in a coherent and accessible way. We attend university fairs organised by schools, and liaise with counsellors to provide help and advice on all aspects of higher education in relation to international students.

Why the international schools market matters to Canterbury Christ Church University
We greatly value the importance of our relationships with international schools, which support our community outreach goals and our international recruitment and internationalisation strategy. We value the opportunity given to us by schools to support their international students and counsellors with practical advice, whilst also promoting our courses and the city of Canterbury as a fantastic study destination.
“The international schools database [ISC Outreach] is an invaluable tool for connecting and networking with international schools, their students and counsellors.”
How the ISC Outreach portal helps our team
The ISC Outreach schools database has been an invaluable resource, allowing me to efficiently and effectively research and target international schools and obtain the contact details of key staff, including counsellors, heads of year and headteachers. Links to school websites also aid and enhance research, and filters allow searches to be refined, with my focus being on geographical location and sixth form programmes of study.”
