Despite remote learning featuring once again for some schools in the UAE, the beginning of the new school term has begun with the successful adoption of a new working week across the country.

From January 1st, 2022, the official working week in all emirates within the UAE except Sharjah has moved from a five-day, Sunday to Thursday week, to a four and a half-day school week from Monday to Friday, with an early finish on Fridays to allow staff and students to attend the Friday prayers. In Sharjah, schools have adopted a four-day week from Monday to Thursday.

This ruling applies to all schools in the country as well as government offices and the financial exchange. Private companies are able to choose their own timings and most have selected to adopt the new changes.

“The change should make business logistics between schools, regulators and companies in the UAE and many other countries, much easier going forward,” says Nalini Cook, Head of EMEA Research at ISC Research. “It will address many of the challenges that schools in the UAE have faced in the past when working with suppliers and support services in other countries.”
